Normal campaign practices assume a persuadable electorate. I believe this is in error for most voters now. I live in Illinois so all examples will be Illinois, but I think this will apply to states like PA too. TV ads were very powerful in the gubernatorial primary. Once Darren Bailey got on TV he caught up to Richard Irvin and romped to a W with over 50% of the vote. Why did TV ads work? Primary voters are open minded and persuadable. There is no default vote, and the issues matter. Come the general, $40 million made no impact. I hypothesize we are tribal now so its just in one ear out the other. Thus, everything becomes mobilizing your base. We have 40 days of early voting. That is 40 days in which Dems mobilize, and we wait until election day. And as we saw, there is now incentive to have "errors" with supply of ballots, ink, etc on election day for Dems.
Let's debunk some confirmation bias theories. The anti-Trump crowd blames Trump and Bailey for everything. Problem. The vote count does not support this. There was an even mix of Maga and establishment for state wide offices. They basically got the same amount of votes, so blaming Trump or Bailey doesn't add up and neither does blaming rinos. Let's look at two Congressional races with wildly different candidates. IL-11 had Catalina Lauf. Some question her Maga credentials in the past, but she ran as a Maga warrior this cycle highlighting the border, lockdowns, vax mandates, etc. She is a young, physically attractive, minority female. And she lost by around 11 which is the baseline for the district.. IL-14 had Scott Gryder. He has been county board chairman for a while and is very well known in the community. He refused to go anywhere near Bailey and Maga and ran as establishment. He is a middle aged, white guy. And he lost by 7 in a D-7. He did not even win his own county he has been in his whole life. Catalina and Scott could not be more different but yet they produced the exact same result. We are tribal now and all of these things the pundits think matter don't.
Now let's go further down the ballot and see what did matter. Dan Koukol got elected as a Republican to the county board in a district that leans D. He went around passing out nail files with his name on it and pretty much went to any and all events, whether political in nature or not. Jed Davis got elected to state rep 61% to 39%, over performing on his generic ballot. He had a scooter and went around door to door and texted and called voters.
My general thesis is we need completely different strategies for primaries vs general. Primaries are about educating and name recognition. General is becoming much more just getting your people to the polls and this is going to mean making use of mail ins and early vote.
In this video I parallel the toxic ideas expressed in the Barbie movie to Pharaoh's injunction to the Hebrew midwives to kill all male children born of Hebrew women as a means of subjugating the Israelites and preventing them from rising up. this is the deep state's same plan just by different means with the American people.
